WASHINGTON – Police are still searching for the killer of a longtime Alexandria resident who was gunned down Thursday after answering her front door. And on this Sunday, a church community is missing Ruthanne Lodato, one of their own.
“Ruthanne Lodato was a very well loved parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church in Alexandria,” Michael Donohue, a spokesman for the Catholic Diocese of Arlington says. She was a longtime parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and lived only blocks away. Donohue says she had deep roots in the Alexandria community where she grew up with her four siblings.
“Parishioners are heartbroken. Many of them knew her work in the parish as an organist,” he says, adding she was a beloved music teacher.
Lodato is survived by three daughters and a husband. Her funeral is tentatively set for Saturday, Feb. 15.
